- About Dr. Deborah Honeycutt:
Dr. Deborah Travis Honeycutt is a family medicine physician who earned her university and professional degrees from the University of Illinois School of Medicine and Family Practice Residency Program. She is a past Medical Director of Spelman College Health Services and present Medical Director of Clayton State University Health Clinic. Other medical positions she has held include being a medical educator as a faculty member of Atlanta Medical Center’s Family Practice Residency Training Program and she also held an appointment to the Emory University Family Practice Residency Training Program. Dr. Honeycutt has cared for residents of Georgia at Georgia Baptist Family Doctor in Palmetto, Georgia, later as a solo private practice family physician at Five Points Family Practice in Fairburn, Georgia, and currently at Eagles Landing Family Practice in Hampton, Georgia.
In 2004 Dr. Honeycutt was President of the Georgia Academy of Family Physicians and in 2005 served as Chairman of the Board of Directors. On the national level she has served on many committees as well as a five-year appointment to the American Academy of Family Physicians’ Commission on Education. She was twice the Minority Constituency Delegate and twice the Georgia State Delegate to the American Academy of Family Physicians.
In 2005 she became Medical Director of Good Shepherd Clinic, the free clinic in Morrow, Georgia. She served as medical director there until her decision to run for U.S. Congress in Georgia District 13. Dr Honeycutt is active in lobbying at the state and federal level for improvement of health care in Georgia. Her local community involvement includes guest presentations and lectures on the topic of diseases that disproportionately affect African Americans, including diabetes, obesity and domestic violence. She has served on the boards of the Georgia Academy of Family Physicians, of the CareNet Pregnancy Resource Center of Atlanta and on the Board of Directors of the Georgia Partnership for Caring. She currently serves on the Georgia Free Clinic Network Board of Directors and is co-chair of the Georgia Department of Community Health Minority Health Advisory Council.
Dr. Honeycutt, despite her busy campaign schedule, continues to serve free clinic patients at the Good Shepherd Clinic as a volunteer physician. Her concern for public education is evident by her attendance at school board meetings in Clayton County and education forums at community meetings such as the Clayton County Home Owners Association. Dr. Honeycutt meets with local elected officials in District 13 and attends city council meetings. Dr. Honeycutt continually calls for effective change in the district based upon community values. Republicans, Democrats and Independents view her as an effective community leader. Dr. Honeycutt, a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., is married to Dr. Andrew Honeycutt, a Harvard University Doctor of Business Administration and Distinguished Fellow of Business at Shorter College. Deborah and her husband are members of Word of Faith Family Cathedral in Austell, Georgia.

- I am Dr. Jean Howard-Hill and I head the National Republican African American Caucus - NRAAC.
The NRAAC creates a new, exciting and positive relationship between the Republican Party and the African-American community; and increases the visibility and ranks of African-American Republicans who share some of the same core values as the Party.
The uniqueness of our organization is two fold:
1. Ninety percent (90%) of our membership are new republicans! This means we have successfully recruited from a fresh pool of voters who were either Independents, Democrats or non-voters.
2. The membership consist of ninety-nine percent (99%) African America people of faith, with more than seventy-five percent (75%) of its membership coming from the African American clergy and those in ministry, and ninety-five percent (95%) of its leadership being clergy and those in some form of ministry.
The NRAAC also serves as a conduit for addressing issues and concerns that are unique to the African-American community, and opportunities to work together with the Republican Party, and elected officials to find workable and amicable solutions. The creation of the organization offers hope for the betterment of the total community by building a stronger, more diverse, and more stable political environment, that strengthens our families, communities, and nation.
Our goal is 1 million by 2012, and 100,000 in 2010. You may ask why so many? As one who teaches Political Science at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, let me explain why. It is because political strength is in numbers! If you can show you have a substantial number of people who can stand as a voting block, and have the ability to finance your own cause, then you become a significant player within the political landscape. This is how we as African Americans get to the table, have a voice and are placed ourselves in appointed and elected positions.
